Good news for gyms in analysis of NHS Track and Trace data
22 Nov 2020 . BY Liz Terry
Gyms have fared well in an analysis of Track and Trace for COVID-19 / Dusan Petkovic
Gyms are right near the bottom of the list in terms of places people have visited before a positive COVID-19 test, according to UK government statistics.

Research into data from users of the government's Track and Trace app has shown that gyms are one of the places least implicated in cases, according to a report by Sky News.

Public Health England (PHE) crunched the numbers from the app, meaning the sample relates to those using it, with 128,808 people who had tested positive reporting.

The insight shows the locations most frequented by people who were subsequently diagnosed with the virus, however, PHE says it does not conclusively prove where they contracted COVID-19.

Supermarkets, secondary and primary schools top the list by some margin at 18.3 per cent, 12.7 per cent and 10.1 per cent.

Gyms are near the bottom of the list at 1.1 per cent – the same result as doctor's surgeries.

Around 9,789 location types were reported, with this list showing percentages for the most frequently mentioned.
